Bridgeton Neighborhood Thanks and Congrats

Local chapter of Parrot Heads Club adopts local river bank for clean-up.
Here is a big thank you shout out from the Bridgeton Community for the local chapter “Key Northwest” of Parrot Heads in Paradise, Inc. Your  efforts in adopting the south shore along Bridgeton Road to the Railroad Bridge to provide clean-up in the Bridgeton community is most welcome and appreciated.
According to Kristi Eberhard the local group had participated in several clean-up events on the Oregon Coast and decided that the river shore needed their attention. The group contacted SOLV who sponsors the beach cleanup and arranged to adopt our section of the Columbia River Shore. Their first river clean-up effort will take place in April.
The local group is in their 11th year and has 120 members. Nationally Parrot Heads has 200 clubs. The Group formed from and appreciation of the Jimmy Buffett music and lifestyle but has grown to include community action, information on issues including environmental efforts. For more information see their web site at www.keynorthwest.org or contact Chris Sloan, club leader at mailboat@keynorthwest.org or Steve Eberhard at steveeberhard@iinet.com.

Local resident foils car theft
An alert Bridgeton resident foiled an attempt to steal a neighbors car Thursday  Oct. 20th at around 10:30 PM. Jon Peterson, who lives across the street from the Channels Edge coffee house, caught a man attempting to steal his neighbors newer SUV (Nissan Pathfinder).
   Jon immediately called 911.
The man ( approx 6'1", Caucasian, 180-190 lbs, approx 25 yrs old, dressed in light tan pants, dark blue jacket & dark blue baseball cap) when he realized he was discovered quickly left the scene and walked toward the east end of Bridgeton Road and then down a side street (NE 2nd or NE 3rd).  However, a few minutes later Jon noticed the same man walking briskly past the Gantenbein-Bridgeton intersection toward the west end of the neighborhood where he was seen loitering around other parked cars before he turned down N. Haight street.
The police arrived a few minutes later and searched the area but could not locate the suspect. Jon noticed that the suspect apparently had a key and apparently was seeking out a specific make and model of vehicle.
This is a good example of how our neighborhood's efforts to be more vigilant can help to dissuade car thefts in  Bridgeton. If you notice anything suspicious please call 911. Officer Bob Fousch is usually on duty between 10 PM and 6 AM and will be immediately alerted by the 911 dispatcher. -Matt

Airport Noise Chairperson Appointed
For more than a year BNA has been without a Port of Portland Airport Noise watch-dog. Kathy Schmidt stepped up to the plate at the September 14th BNA meeting and volunteered and was appointed Committee Chair on the spot. Kathy Lives on a house boat in the Columbia Way West marina and is directly under the path of  planes drifting south of the approved flight path. During the meeting Kathy explained she works from home and is bothered daily by the aircraft noise. She believes that the Port is not following it’s own rules and directing air traffic east during low or no wind periods, especially early morning and late evening. She has been an active attendee at meetings and regularly calls when pilots are not taking off over the main channel. If you have an interest in learning more on this issue and possibly helping on this committee you can contact Kathy Schmidt at kaschmidtka@hotmail.com or call her at 503-816-2431.
