Bridgeton N. A. Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the BNA Board and Tree Committee
Meeting of November 7, 2007
     7:00 pm

This was a continuation of the meeting of October 24.  Due to a miscommunication, the clubroom was not available and the meeting took place at Carol Emery’s home.

Seven Board members were present.  They were Kim Swenson, Matt Whitney, Chuck Wilson, Cherryann Kolbenschlag, Jon Wilson, Leslie Sawyer and  Walter Valenta.   Sam McGarrity was out of town so Rebecca Whitney took minutes.   Others present were Carol Emery, Rebecca Whitney, Karen Trusty, Kathy Schmidt, Stuart and Alise Goforth.

Walter Valenta and Elise Goforth gave the results of the meeting with Penn2 and the Urban Forester.  It was felt there was a major breakthrough with Dick  Schaeffer.  He listened and was educated as to the major tree issues 1. Resolution 547, and 2. Tree Permits.   The Penn2/BNA lawsuit is still hanging there – a good thing at this point.  Penn2’s annual board meeting is December 6.  A presentation is to be prepared.

Dave McCallister, Portland Urban Forester, had provided the Tree Comm with process to be expected before Penn2 can cut Bridgeton’s trees. i.e. – written notification 10-days before something happens – and much more detail and specification requirements.  The process is very elaborate and BNA expects additional email on this.  Discussion on the process we are requesting and stress that we want agreement.  A lengthy discussion was conducted.

It was moved to confirm Carol’s suggestion to have a resolution drawn up giving three Tree Comm. members, Alise, Tom and Walter to officially represent the BNA to present an agreement to the Penn2 Board.

Timing is good to talk to Port of Portland Alise stated.  Penn2 Board appears to be uninformed of Dave Hendricks actions.  Discussion ensued on Penn2’s misconduct and inefficiency.

A discussion of finances and what bills we still had to pay was had.  Thank You in beer was decided would be good to send to Geodesign for their generosity.  Perhaps Beer of the Month.  It was also decided to spend $550 on that and for other attorney Karl Anuda perhaps a collection of flies as he likes to fly fish.  Wine perhaps.  Also the concern with be a good fundraiser.

Executive Board met to ok promissory notes to Board and Tree Comm members who are providing financial support.

Kim suggested we needed a summary of “what’s going on” to residents with regard to the tree situation.    Perhaps positive flyers printed out to hand out at Channel’s Edge.

Alise said it was completely Brent Foster of Columbia Riverkeepers who went to bat about the permits.  More fundraising ideas were thrown about – rummage sale, calendars, concerns, bake sales, etc.

The meeting was adjourned at 9.30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Rebecca Whitney,
Acting Secretary for Sam McGarrity
