Bridgeton N. A. Meeting Minutes

Minutes October 18, 2006 Bridgeton Neighborhood Association Meeting

This Special Meeting of the Bridgeton Neighborhood Association was called to order at 7:05 PM on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the Marriott Residence Hotel.   There were 68 residents and guests in attendance.

The meeting started with Walter Valenta (Bridgeton N.A. Board member and Land Use Committee Chair) giving an overview of the history of the Bridgeton area.  Then Patty Freeman, Landscape Architect from Portland Parks provided a presentation of some of the possibilities for the future “Bridgeton Promenade” path.  The first set of slides showed the 3 styles of paths now in Portland parks.  These were the standard path, a neighborhood promenade and a fancier waterfront esplanade type path.  They differ in width, amenities and cost.

After that we saw various paths from different areas in the Northwest including the Vancouver Washington riverfront path and Vancouver B.C.’s urban walkways.  The overflow crowd of residents had a lively discussion.

The topics of interest at this meeting were the kind of lighting that would be along the path, seating, shade, the width of the path and whether there coud be river access.

As there were many types of potential users in the audience, it was a wide-ranging discussion.  We had the bicyclists, pedestrians, dog walkers and near-by neighbors talking about their concerns.

The project would require land acquisition as well as funding and a time line of 5 to 7 years to completion was the best guesstimate for when it might be “real.”

There will be further meetings to try and reach consensus on the design.
A shortened version of Patty Freeman’s presentation is available on the Portland Park’s web site http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/index.cfm?c=43409
All Bridgeton residents were encouraged to fill out and send in the Portland Park’s Comment Forms available on the web site or call Bridgeton N.A. for a copy.  All comments will be tabulated and incorporated in the future design options.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 PM.
