Bridgeton N. A. Meeting Minutes
The board meeting of the Bridgeton Neighborhood Association was called to order at 5:05 PM on Wednesday March 7, 2007 at Channel’s Edge.   (see general meeting min. lower part of page)

The following board members and officers were in attendance:

Matt Whitney [Chair], Lynn Dorman [Secretary], Jon Peterson, Chuck Wilson, Kim Swenson, and Cherry Ann Kolbenschlag

Not present: Walter Valenta, Mary Hart, Stan Hart [Treasurer]
and Mike Gibson [vice chair]


1. CherryAnn spoke of her Network Emergency Team [NET] Training and this topic will be on the agenda for the next general neighborhood meeting.

2. We discussed the North Portland Precinct issue and will send a letter from our board in support of retention of a full precinct.

3. Communications.  We agreed we need to meet more regularly as a Board and our next Board meeting will take place at 6PM on May 16th just prior to the general neighborhood meeting.

4. We discussed Rick’s website and will ask him to post a disclaimer on the site.  Wording to be worked out.

5. Recycling.  Topic will be on the agenda for the general meeting.

6. Spring Clean-Up.  Scheduled for April 21st along with other N. Portland neighborhoods.  We will encourage recycling and try to have some recycling literature available.

7. Elections.  Nominations will take place at the general meeting on March 21st and ballots will be due on or at the April 18th at the meeting.

8. Bike/Ped path was discussed.

9. Columbia River Crossing.  Matt is now on one of the subcommittees.

10.  Children’s Arboretum.  Has met its financial goals.

March 21, 2007 Bridgeton Neighborhood Association Meeting
 

The meeting of the Bridgeton Neighborhood Association was called to order at 7:03 PM at the Columbia School.

There were 24 residents and guests in attendance.

1. Mary Tompkins spoke about the neighborhood watch program and she will be available to help us set up new ones.  We have two in the neighborhood now.

She also spoke about the Spring Break curfew sweeps that will be happening next week during Spring Break.  Children under 14 must be home by 10:15 PM and those over 14 must be in by midnight.

There is a strength-training program for women sponsored by the Portland Police

2. CherryAnn Kolbenschlag and Wayne Low spoke about the Neighborhood Emergency Team [NET] Training they just completed.  Each fire district has trained persons to help in the case of an emergency but our district has only the 2 of them.

Written material was handed out regarding and we were encouraged to sign up for the next training sessions, which start next week.  The deadline for the upcoming training is March 23.

There is a break over the summer and then there will be Fall training.  The person to contact is Lawrence Behmer 503-823-4375 or  lbehmer@ci.portland.or.us for information about future training.

4. Spring Clean Up

Takes pace on April 21st.

This year we will have a sign up sheet at Channel’s Edge for volunteers to say when an where they will be volunteering.

A suggestion as made to call the Sheriff’s Department to see if we can use inmates to clean up on Marine Drive as it is getting too dangerous for a few volunteers to work at.

5. Neighborhood Concerns and Open Discussion

a. Recycling – after a lively discussion of the topic, a committee was formed to plan activities to encourage recycling

b. Animal Control told persons at the park used by neighbors for letting dogs loose that it is not an official off-leash park and owners of dogs off leash can be fined $175.  This will be looked into as we have all assumed we can use it as an off-leash area.
