Bridgeton N. A. Meeting Minutes
Minutes
February 15, 2006
Bridgeton Neighborhood Association Meeting
The meeting of the Bridgeton Neighborhood Association was called to order at
7:02 PM on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at the Columbia School.
There were 29 residents and guests in attendance.
1. Introduction of board Members and Officers
At the April General Meeting we will elect board members. The current Board has
recommended the addition of Mike Gibson to the Board and as Vice-Chair. The
existing Board members and Officers have agreed to volunteer for another year.
Current Board: Mary Hart, Lynn Dorman, Cherry Ann Kolbenschlag, Jon Peterson, Kim Swenson, Matt Whitney, Chuck Wilson, Walter Valenta.
Officers: Matt Whitney, Chair; Lynn Dorman, Secretary; Stan Hart, Treasurer.
2. Lt. Steve Smith, Lt. Harry Jackson and Officer Mike Leonard were introduced.
Officer Leonard will be assigned to our neighborhood, as Officer Bob Foesch will
be deployed with his National Guard Unit. Officer Leonard can be reached at
503-823-5700 and his email address is Mleonard@portlandpolice.org. This info will be added to our web site.
Officer Leonard presented the crime statistics – and again most crime occurs at nights and on weekends.
3. Tom Peavey then spoke about neighborhood watch programs. The statistics he presented indicate that the more watched you have in a
neighborhood the lower the crime rate. He suggested we have watches in smaller areas, like moorages combined with the
houses on the street, blocks, etc. Bridgeton has one neighborhood watch group organized by Marty Dollar up and
running and a second group for the east end of Bridgeton Road in starting to
form.
4. Spring Clean Up
This will take place on April 22 and we will have three 40 yard roll offs,
document shredders, and an electronic recycler for the clean up. We ask a contribution for the shredding and the recycler charges according to
what you bring.
More information will be available prior to the date.
5. ADA path at the new Marriott
An official ADA accessible path will be maintained by Marriott and is for all to
use. The City of Portland will start construction this Spring.
6. Bridge at Columbia School playfield.
We have some extra grant money available for a community project and a small
bridge over a ditch in the SE corner of the school playfield is an option. Volunteers are requested to contact Matt.
7. Levee Pedestrian Path
The levee path/esplanade and pocket park are still being “worked” on. We discussed the 40 mile loop and a need to continue to safely connect our
neighborhood to the rest of the loop.
8. Neighborhood Yard Sale
Although there had been some interest in this at a past meeting – at present it lacked any interest and the idea is no longer being considered.
9. Neighborhood Bicycle Ride
After we discussed the 40 mile loop it was suggested that we have a neighborhood
bike ride so we could see the parts of the loop being discussed and see what
bicycle connectors are needed. This will probably be scheduled for April 28 or 29.
10. New Hotel
Marriott will be adding a new family hotel to its site near I-5.
11. Rumors
The Port of Portland has bought the Colwood golf course near the south end of
the airport and rumors are going around about PDX building a new runway. Stay tuned.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM
Next meeting - Board meeting March 15 at Channels Edge
